NAPLAN Workshop details

The program, called Assessment for Better Learning using NAPLAN Data, will focus on two main themes:

  • How curriculum leaders and classroom teachers can use their school-level data to analyse the impact of their school’s learning programs.
  • How classroom teachers can use the responses to questions on the NAPLAN 2011 tests as a diagnostic tool to inform future teaching.

This program will be offered as a two-hour workshop to be delivered during October and November. These workshops are suitable for principals, NAPLAN co-ordinators and classroom teachers and are provided free-of-charge to participants. The workshops will be presented on behalf of the VCAA by Peter Congdon from Kmetrics at venues across Victoria (see attachment). Tea and coffee will be available on arrival.

Workshops will commence with a ‘live’ demonstration on how to access school data through the NAPLAN Data Service website[1] and will include a demonstration of the new features included in this year’s NAPLAN Data Service. The central component of each workshop is designed to assist teachers to interpret their school’s data to inform classroom practice to improve student achievement. This component focuses on the diagnostic elements of the NAPLAN 2011 tests. The final segment of the workshop will have a ‘whole school’ focus concentrating on the interpretation of data to inform curriculum and school-wide There will be opportunities for participants to reflect on their own school’s data and to seek clarification regarding interpretation of the data. To support this activity, schools are asked to bring hard copies of one of each of their NAPLAN 2011 Data Reports. Please bring examples only, not every page of every report.

Provision for on-line access is not being made for these workshops. Please access and save/print any reports you want to bring prior to the workshop.

Accessing your NAPLAN results

[1]     In 2011 your school’s NAPLAN Data Reports will again be delivered via the NAPLAN Data Service, accessible through the VCAA’s secure website.
